Hi friends

I hope you're having a nice week so far.

When I was out and about yesterday I bought a few dozen roses.

Ok I admit it..actually I bought four dozen..yes I think I'm addicted. Lol.

I've been sick with a cold, so getting out and buying roses made me feel a little better.

I took a few photos this morning while the living room was filled with light.

I love the colour of these roses.

The other roses I bought are in my dining room.

Maybe I will share in another post.. or are you getting tired of my roses by now?

Lol.

My little Claire had to stop and smell the roses..

I just love her..

I love taking photos of items on my chippy farm table..

it creates a neat backdrop I think.

We purchased another chair over the weekend so now we have one on each side of the farm table.

It really helps to balance the room.

(I love white slipcovers....so easy to keep clean.)

Wilting...fading...yet still so beautiful to me.

I'm always changing things up and decorating, so I put the roses in my living room.

I love the natural light in this room.

I like to keep my flowers, especially roses, as long as possible.

I put them in various pitchers/jars on my antique shoe rack which ive turned into my dining room storage display.

Hi friends

I hope you're having a nice week so far.

I took a few photos of one of my favourite spaces in my 1930s home.

My kitchen nook...

Old chippy baskets in a beautiful shade of blue filled with kitchen linens,old platter and bowls.

I like using prayer candles when entertaining guests.

They give such a nice glow and last a long time.

I use my Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic mugs daily.

I love the little crowns on them.

...

My kitchen nook is the perfect spot to read a favourite book and have coffee.

The original built ins are great for storing my collection of white serving pieces.

This space is always so light and airy which I love.

It's such a beautiful sunny day today in Seattle

Such a beautiful day and I am so thankful for it...

The beautiful shabby green dresser is going to Jessica's darling home.

Jessica is going to use it in her daughters' room.

I love meeting fellow bloggers and readers of my blog.

We chatted a bit and realized we have so much in common.

We shared a good laugh when our husbands were talking to eachother about how they miss their leather sofas and more "manly" decor! Lol.

Our husbands are so understanding about our love for "shabby chic" and white. :)

Hi friends

THANK YOU all so much for your comments of love and encouragement on my last post in regards to my aunt Jenny passing from Cancer.

You all touched my heart and I thank you so much.

I woke up to my house filled with beautiful light this morning and I was inspired to take some photos...

I moved my antique shoe rack to my dining room and changed things up a bit this past weekend.

It was helpful to do some rearranging to take my mind off losing my precious aunt.

Fresh flowers always help brighten my day..

My little Claire on her favourite perch watching me..

I love collecting antique white ironstone pieces.

I find most of them at thriftshops and they are very inexpensive.

Hi friends

I wanted to check in with you and let you know why Ive been so absent from blogging recently.

I lost my beautiful aunt Jenny.

Thank you to my blog/facebook friends for all of the love and supportive comments in regards to my aunt Jenny passing away from cancer last week.

I was with her when she passed after a 2 year battle with cancer.

She was only 48

She was not only beautiful on the outside but she was even more beautiful on the inside

She was the kindest and most caring person

She was a true angel on earth

but..

now she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

and that gives my family comfort.

Be sure to take the time to let your family and friends know how much you love them.

Life is too short.

I've been finding it hard to get inspired to blog about antiques, finds etc. when going through this loss.

In case you noticed a little change here..I went back to my original blog name.It fits where I've been going with my design style.I debated about it for a while and felt that it needed to change back.Thats all. :)

I want to share with you my new favourite piece...

My good friend had her talented husband make me a console very similar to the one that Rachel Ashwell sells on her site HERE .

I am in LOVE..

He did such an amazing job.

I didn't realize what a substantial size it would be.He made it slightly taller than the dimensions of the RA piece.

His craftsmanship is amazing and he stained it to match my antique wooden shoe rack. (previous post)

I had wanted the RA piece for a long time..but I couldn't afford it.

He can create similar versions of Rachel Ashwells furniture pieces on her site. ( very affordable)

I asked if he would be willing to create custom pieces for my friends / readers of my blog and he agreed.

(If you don't live in WA, then shipping the piece is always an option if interested)

I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend

I did a little antique shopping this weekend at my favourite antique shop

Whimsical Whites

Kathy and Kris always keep their shop stocked with the best unique and beautiful finds.

I found these beautiful millinery flowers and an antique light dusty lavender silk sewing box.

I love the lavender and purple tones in the sewing box and flowers.

I actually do keep my little sewing kit in the box just incase I need it.

The sewing box even has a little bit of millinery attached to the lid.

I found a few more treasures which I will share with you in a later post.

They are very shabby chic and perfect for the way I am going in my home decor.

I have been more attracted to Shabby Chic decor than farmhouse style nowadays.

I may need to change my blog name..uh oh. lol :)

I put two large bundles of millinery flowers in my mercury glass vase and love how they turned out.

I enjoy them more than real flowers to be honest.

Have you found anything new that you are loving? I always love to hear from you.

~ New Years Roses ~ Thank You ~

Happy New Year everyone!!

I hope you all had a wonderful New Years Eve.

...

When I went grocery shopping I picked up these roses.I love the coulours and the lightly tattered edges. My husband thought they looked like they were wilting but I think they are beautiful just as they are.

And for only $5 I couldn't resist. (Safeway)

I put them in an antique white ironstone pitcher I found at a thriftstore for a few dollars.

I started my after Christmas deep cleaning yesterday and was decluttering and moving things around so I sat the roses on my farmhouse table in the living room.

I was walking past this space with the sun streaming thru today and thought it would be a pretty photo. lol.

Today I am finishing up housework and spending time with my family.

Just thought I would do a quick post and share the photos I took today. :)

I picked her out of a basketful of kittens almost 5 years ago at my sons baseball game.

I was in love at first sight

She is so sweet and follows me everywhere all day long.

The sunlight was streaming in this afternoon as I lit some candles and was reading one of my favourite books then Claire decided to join me on the comfy sofa.

There is so much going on this time of year and my lack of blogging reflects it.

Our tree isn't vintage or shabby chic style but it is perfect for us.

I made a simple Thankgiving table setting with mercury glass candlesticks (Tausha, I copied your look and went back to Target to buy the gold ones too!! lol)

Scattered dried hydrangeas and put some sprigs in glass bottles

I used my ruffled linen Christmas tree skirt again as a tablecloth

Hopefully nobody spills cranberry sauce on it!

My mantel has more mercury glass and scattered dried hydrangeas

A string of Christmas lights give such a warm glow

This morning on my way to Starbucks I stopped by my favourite flower stand to buy some roses

When I got home I decided to put the roses in my antique french enamel bucket

I think it makes a wonderful centerpiece for my dining table.

I got inspired to create a tablesetting using my Ruffled Linens 72" Christmas tree skirt

It is huge and the attention to detail is amazing~Christiana is so talented.

I think it makes a beautiful table covering

I always try to use items in different ways than they were intended.

I just placed the enamel bucket right on top of the circular opening so you can't tell its a tree skirt.

The Ruffled Linens Christmas tree skirt is just too beautiful to not use year round

I have also used the Christmas tree skirt as an ottoman cover in my living room

So far its been a wonderful start to my weekend...

I recently inherited this antique rug that belonged to my great aunt Clara for many years.

My great aunt used to have it on her buffet and not used as a rug.

I wanted to actually use it as a rug,so I washed it in my washing machine with a little bleach to lighten it a bit.(I know its probably not how you are supposed to wash these old rugs) lol.

I am so happy with how it turned out because we now use it in our entryway.

I love the soft faded blue colour

And the fact that it has been in our family for years makes it even more special.

Hi everyone

This past weekend my friend Tracie, my grandmother and I went to the 2nd Saturdayz Fleamarket

I only purchased a few items, but I love what I found.

I found this large arched wooden piece with antique wallpaper on it.

I'm not sure what I will do with it..but I loved it as soon as I saw it.

Maybe I will make it into a memo or photo board for my home office or kitchen.

What would you do with it??

I think the tattered edges and faded florals are beautiful and give it so much charm.

Right now its just sitting next to my mantel waiting to be used.

My other purchase was this antique petite round etched mirror.

I think it's so pretty and a perfect addition to my mirror collection.

The italian florentine box was a recent Ebay find

I've been collecting vintage italian florentine pieces and love the patina on this little box

My grandmother purchased this beautiful antique religious motto for my mom.

I wish it was mine! :)

I am still loving the antique wooden shoe rack that I bought from the Funky Junk Sisters event a few weeks ago.

I have filled it with favourite vintage finds,decor books and magazines.

I LOVE Rachel Ashwell's newest book, do you have it yet? It is beautiful!

My sweet friend Tracie and I went to the Funky Junk Sisters Fleamarket yesterday

I found this antique wooden shoe rack and fell in love at first sight.

I remembered that Rachel Ashwell has a very similar one that she uses in her home and knew I had to take it home wth me asap! :)

My friend Tausha has a similar looking one that a friend made for her (lucky girl!)

I recently purchased this beautiful antique Sacred Heart from my favourite antique shop

I had to share it with you

It is from a Church in France and I think it is so beautiful

* I recieved a comment that said she believes it is the Immaculate Heart Of Mary, so intersting to learn more about its history*If anyone knows anymore about this piece I would love to know*

It is very large and has a wonderful chippy shabby patina

I admired it for a long time and finally decided to splurge on it

I also recently found mercury glass candleholders at TJMaxx

I love the mixture of the chippy wood with the beautiful shiny mercury glass

TJMaxx has alot of Mercury glass right now and very inexpensive

The chippy blue pedestal is actually an antique piece from France that men would spit their tobacco into a long time ago! Crazy huh? I love the light blue chippy paint and the decorative edging. I was surprised to learn what it was originally used for!lol.A little gross. Now it's a pretty shabby chic accent in my home :)

Hi again friends

Just a few photos of the dried hydrangeas I got last weekend while out antiquing

I bought a bag full of them so I've been adding them here and there around my home

These are in my guest room/home office

*( I received so many comments about the little lamp, I found it at a thriftshop a few years ago for a few dollars,the shade was an inexpensive antique shop find,I then used some of my antique millinery flowers and hot glued them to the shade, Im really happy with how it came together and very inexpensive)

I love hydrangeas

Especially dried ones since they last so much longer

Not very "Fall" but so pretty! :)

This past weekend I went antiquing and I found this petite shabby chippy side table

I decided to put it in our breakfast nook

This is my favourite spot to have my morning coffee and read my magazines

I love the natural light that comes into this room

The perfect spot for this shabby table

I found the slipcover for my antique french bistro chair at a thriftshop for a few dollars

My family finds it to be more comfortable with a slipcover

~ Simple ~

I haven't decorated for Fall yet in this room ~ I will add some pumpkins and cornstalks

I love the original 1930 built ins with the beveled glass mirror

(once I saw this nook I was sold on buying our home)

I love the chippy patina

I purchased it at my favourite antique shop Whimsical Whites

Hi friends just a quick post today

I stopped by Trader Joes this morning and found some more pumpkins

I'm loving their colours

More baby pumpkins

I mixed them in with my chippy white salvaged wood frames

and antique zinc pots from Belgium

I love these little white ones

But these larger ones are my favourites

My husband thought it was funny that I was so excited to buy more pumpkins!! :)

I'm adding a few touches of Bleu in my home decor here at 425

I was inspired to add some bleu here and there after receiving my beautiful grainsack pillow from

I love the pale bleu stripes,so soft and it's also handsewn

The touch of bleu blends perfectly with all of my whites

I like to add greenery to unexpected pieces like the antique french enamel sugar canister below

~ French Farmhouse Mantel ~

Hi friends ~ I hope your week is off to a great start

I just wanted to share with you some photos of some changes I've made to my mantel now that the season is changing

I love mixing textures and fabrics

First I layered two chippy white antique mirrors

I displayed an antique french alarm clock with old french fabric boxes

zinc pots from Belgium with coffee berries and my new mercury glass candlesticks from Target I purchased last week (only $12.99-16.99 each).

Soon I will be adding some pumpkins..

Well that's my french farmhouse inspired mantel for now

~ New Favourites ~

I wanted to share with you a few of my new favourite finds

I recently discovered Trader Joe's ~French Market~ Sparkling Lemonade, It is so refreshing and my family loves it. I love the packaging too,very french. ($2.99)

Also, Target sells these plastic tumblers in assorted sizes. They look identical to the ones Anthropologie sells but they are kid friendly and inexpensive.

I purchased 6-8 of each style tumblers and goblets. I first found about about these tumblers on Tausha's blog Simply Me Tausha sometimes uses these as flower vases and they look so pretty. ($2.99-$3.99 )

My new favourite place for fresh flowers is Trader Joes ($3.99) for bunches

LOVE these roses

I displayed them in my favourite chippy french bottle rack

Hi friends I hope you are having a wonderful week so far

I just wanted to share with you some photos of my inspiration board I put in my home office/guest room yesterday.

I wanted a very large corkboard but didn't want to spend alot (usually $30 and up for this size) so I found one at Goodwill ($3.99) and spray painted it white.

I added some of my favorite french finds, the french enamel T (my husband's initial),lavender,antique french monogram pages,clippings from favorite magazines, inspiration photos etc.

It's a great place to keep little ephemera, cards and photos from time to time instead of storing them away

And always so nice to have fresh flowers and candles in your home office/guest room

I purchased these beautiful flowers at Trader Joes this morning

My inspiration board is still a little bare but I'm sure I will fill it up soon enough

My favourite spot in our 1930s home is the cozy nook off of our kitchen

This is where my husband and I have our morning coffee and my boys and I talk about our day in the evening

I love the original built ins where I display and store my collection of white ironstone and entertaining pieces.

It's my favourite spot to sip coffee while reading a new decorating magazine

or sit and talk to a good friend

I like to change out the pillow covers and add fresh flowers to make the space even more cozy and comfortable

As you all probably know I LOVE thrifting

A few of my favorite thriftshops are Goodwill and Value Village

I usually go thrifting a few times a week if I have spare time while running errands etc

I was so excited when I found this vintage zinc flower bucket at Goodwill

And for $1.99 I had to bring it home with me

It is perfect for dried or fresh cut flowers and fits in perfectly with my french farmhouse style

If you've never tried thrifting you should visit a local thriftshop and see what you find

I have a few from France and just purchased some from Belgium recently

They are so simple and yet have so much character and charm

I love their patina

Ever since seeing old french canning jars on Maria's blog Dreamy Whites I have been interested in them.

When I found four of them that an ebay seller listed I knew I had to buy them

I'm so glad I did

Each jar is unique and so much prettier and larger than I expected

I love the different hues of green
