~ Faded,tattered and worn ~

I recently inherited this antique rug that belonged to my great aunt Clara for many years.
My great aunt used to have it on her buffet and not used as a rug.
I wanted to actually use it as a rug,so I washed it in my washing machine with a little bleach to lighten it a bit.(I know its probably not how you are supposed to wash these old rugs) lol.
I am so happy with how it turned out because we now use it in our entryway.
I love the soft faded blue colour

Faded,tattered and worn
~LOVE~
And the fact that it has been in our family for years makes it even more special.
I started loving these old scatter rugs when I came across my friend Tausha's blog

(Tausha ~ Simply Me)
The photo above shows three of Tausha's scatter rugs in her living room. She has some really beautiful ones.
LOVE them!

You're lucky to have one, a family one at that, they are so hard to find. I can't believe you were brave enough to put bleach in the wash but it turned out so lovely...love the blue.

I have several pieces given to my that were my great-grandmothers. My favorite is a little red French transferware platter. I love living with special family things especially when they fit in with my own decorating.

Enjoy your rug! :)

How wonderful that you have a handed down piece that is tattered and worn, Rachel. I'm sure it will look beautiful in your home.
Your friends scatter rugs are pretty too!

I love old family pieces, things that I can connect to a person! They have a value that you just can't put a dollar sign on. Your rug is one of those and I'm glad that you're getting to enjoy it! I would never part with my favorite Christmas ornament from when I was a child. My parents had it on their tree before I was born. Not sure of its origin, but it's Mercury glass with a cut out in the front. Inside is a glass ball that contains orange liquid. It shines and reflects the orange color and that of the tree lights. It was always my absolute favorite so I was thrilled the year my mom gave it to me for my tree! Have a great weekend! Hugs, Leena

What a pretty rug, Rachel. I love things like that with a special meaning. One of my most favorite things I have is...get ready for this...a coconut. Isn't that funny?! When my grandpa was in the service he mailed it to my grandma from Guam, not in a box or anything. It has her address painted right on the side of it. I love that thing.

Hope you have a good weekend :)

very special Rachel. I have a child's rocking chair that is canes, my fave. It was my mom's when she was a little girl. It now sits in my girls' room.

You are such a daring girl, Rachel! lol! How did you know that you wouldn't ruin that rug with adding bleach?? It sure turned out beautiful, though! Love the soft, faded, "spent many years in the sunshine" look. :) Oh...and Tausha's house...? LUV.

I love this rug! So true about how special it is when it has been passed down to you. We just recently lost my husband's grandmother to cancer and I was given her formal dishes and an old chest that she finished herself. Items like that are treasured and will get passed down to my children someday.

That’s nice! Isn’t it amazing how being old and faded can create an attractive vibe to your home? I think it’s not the design or the color that makes it awesome, but the fact that it is a legacy. Great job!
